Free in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:14–15"For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again."
This past Sunday we talked about the greatest gift Jesus has given us: new life in Him. Through His death and resurrection, sin doesn't have power over us anymore. We're not stuck living the way we used to. Thank God!
But it really matters that we understand what this new life means and what we're called to do with it.
Galatians 5:13"For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
Following Jesus isn't about doing whatever we want or living for ourselves. It's about letting Him change the way we live. He's called us to love people, serve each other, and walk in obedience to His Word.
Romans 6:11"Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Sin doesn't have to run our lives anymore. We don't have to give in to every desire or let the world shape our decisions. In Christ, we've been given new life, and we get to walk in it.
I love how 2 Corinthians 5:15 ties it all together: "and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again."
That's the heart of following Jesus. He didn't give His life just to make our lives a little better. He gave it to make us new and bring us into relationship with Him.
And when we really grasp what He's done for us, it changes how we approach everything.
Our time, our relationships, our decisions, our work, our service— all of it becomes a chance to honor Him. We're not just trying to squeeze Jesus into our lives. We're learning to hand every part of our lives over to Him.
We don't follow Jesus to earn His love. We follow Him because He loved us first and gave Himself for us. So let's not settle for a life that's all about us when He's called us to something so much greater. May the love of Christ be what drives us, shapes our choices, and guides the way we live each day.
