This week at Crosspoint 10/09/2026

Loving Our Enemies
Some of Jesus’ commands challenge us to respond in ways that go against our natural instincts. Loving our enemies is one of them. How should we respond when someone hurts us, mistreats us, or acts against us?
Jesus addresses this directly in Matthew 5:43–48. He tells us not only to love our neighbors, but to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who persecute us.
Matthew 5:44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”
That’s a different kind of love. It goes beyond what comes naturally to us. Jesus reminds us that even people who don't know God can love those who love them. But as followers of Christ, we are called to reflect our Father’s character even when others have treated us poorly.
This doesn't mean we ignore wrongdoing or pretend hurtful actions are acceptable. We can stand for what is right without responding to sin with sin, hostility with hostility, or hatred with hatred. We can show kindness, pray for those who hurt us, and leave room for God to work in their lives.
Jesus calls us to be a light in this world, and sometimes that light shines brightest when we choose to love someone who hasn't shown us love in return.
This week, let's ask the Lord to help us see people through His eyes.
Is there someone you need to pray for instead of speaking against? Is there someone you can treat with kindness even though they've been unkind to you? Is there someone whose actions have made it difficult to show the love of Christ?
We cannot control how others treat us, but by God's grace, we can choose how we respond.
