Kindness and love - the way we treat others

The Bible has a lot to say about how we should treat people. Godly love and kindness are evidence of a heart that is being shaped by the grace of God. This supernatural love results in miraculous results.

Proverbs 16:7 “When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

That verse doesn't mean that if we follow Jesus, everyone will suddenly like us. Jesus Himself warned us that following Him would sometimes bring opposition. But, it does show us something important.

When our lives are aligned with God’s heart, all our relationships can be  positively impacted.

In the New Testament, Jesus gives us an even greater challenge.

Matthew 5:44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”

That's not natural kindness. That's Christlike love.

It is easy to love people who love us. It's easy to be gracious when someone is gracious toward us. But Jesus calls His followers to something far greater. We are called to respond differently—not because everyone deserves our kindness, but because we belong to Him.

The Apostle Paul echoes this same truth:

Romans 12:20 “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink.”

And just a few verses earlier, God reminds us:

Romans 12:17 “Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.”

The Christian life isn't about keeping score.

They were unkind, so I can be unkind.
They ignored me, so I'll ignore them.
They hurt me, so they deserve to be hurt back.

Jesus showed us another way - and why we do things differently. We are kind because God has been kind to us. We love because He first loved us.

Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.”

Our kindness is ultimately a reflection of the kindness we've received from Christ.

That doesn't mean biblical love has no boundaries. It doesn't mean we ignore sin, tolerate abuse, or pretend that wrong is right. Jesus was full of both grace and truth. But even when He confronted sin, He never stopped loving people.

So what would happen if we became more intentional about this? What if we remembered that the person who is difficult to love is still someone made in the image of God?

And what if, instead of asking, “How are they treating me?” we started asking, “How is Jesus asking me to treat them?”

Because our goal isn't simply to have peaceful relationships. Our goal is to let the mind of Christ be ours. That changes everything.

Mark your calendar! 🗓

Exciting things are coming to Crosspoint! See below for several of these opportunities to serve and grow together. Be sure to save the dates and be a part.

Hoving Home

This is a great opportunity for women in our church family to go and share God’s Word and love with women who need hope and Christian friendship.

Discipleship Meeting
September 13 | 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm

After our services, Pastor Phillip will meet with our current disciplers and anyone interested in becoming a discipler.

While we continue doing one on one discipleship, we’re moving toward a more intentional model of ongoing discipleship—one that recognizes that making disciples is much more than completing a course. We’ll discuss the changes, where we’re headed, and how you can help others grow as followers of Jesus.

Childcare will be available.

Moving Party
September 23 at 7:00 pm

Instead of our normal Wednesday activities, we're having a church-wide Moving Party at our current location on Altadena Dr.

We need everyone who is able to help us make the transition and prepare for our first Sunday at World Vision.

There will be no regular Wednesday Bible study or activities that evening.

Childcare will not be available.

Crosspoint’s 10th Birthday / First Sunday at World Vision
September 27  |  9:30 am & 11:30 am

This is a BIG Sunday!

We’ll celebrate ten years of God’s faithfulness to Crosspoint on the same Sunday we hold our first services at World Vision.

After the services, we’ll celebrate together with a taco truck! With so much happening that week, we don’t want to add the work of preparing and serving a large meal. We want our church family and volunteers to be able to enjoy this milestone together.

Come ready to worship, celebrate, fellowship, eat some tacos, and thank God for all He has done! This will also be a great Sunday to invite someone to join you.
