What is fellowship? Is it just a weird Christian word that means we have awkward conversations with people we barely know after church is over? Maybe that’s what some people think, but the Biblical definition of fellowship is so much more. The definition of Bible fellowship comes from the Greek word koinonia, and it means—mutual cooperation in God’s worship, God’s work, and God’s will being done in our midst.
This is why God said that church attendance isn’t optional. He told us to gather together. We can’t even fellowship Biblically without being part of a church body. You can’t have church by yourself; and since church and this idea of fellowship is God’s idea, He has instructed us to encourage other believers to be a part of this awesome plan for joint participation — fellowship.
It is vital for our personal growth and for God’s kingdom to be advanced that we solidify in our hearts that church (a called-out assembly for the mission of spreading the Gospel and encouraging believers to walk with God) is in fact God’s idea. Now isn’t the time to go to church less, to hang out with believers less, or to share the Gospel less. The Bible, in fact, tells us we should do it MORE as we see the coming of Christ getting closer.
Satan is always trying to lie, distract, and give out excuses if we want them. Let’s kick those temptations of complacency to the curb, and let’s be the church that God has called us to be! We must work together for God’s will to be accomplished here on earth.
