If You Have Faith 🕊️🙏🏼

Jesus trained His disciples with ordinary moments and everyday objects. Near the end of His ministry, after the transfiguration, He stepped into a crowd—and into a crisis.

A father pleaded:

“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him." (Matthew 17:15–16)

The disciples were stunned. They had listened to Jesus, walked with Jesus, and had even been sent out by Jesus with His authority—yet here they were, powerless. Later, they asked the question every servant of God eventually asks:

Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me." And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" (Matthew 17:19)

Jesus’ answer was both piercing and hopeful:

“So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." (Matthew 17:20–21)

Jesus wasn’t praising big faith. He was calling them to real faith—faith that doesn’t merely start, but stays. A mustard seed is tiny, but once it takes root, it’s stubbornly alive. It spreads. It holds its ground. It doesn’t look impressive at first, but it refuses to quit.

That’s the kind of faith Jesus was after: not faith that’s large in feeling, but faith that’s anchored in Him—faith that leans on His power through prayer, not on our confidence through effort.

And we are not disadvantaged compared to those disciples.

We have the Word of God—what Peter called “the more sure word of prophecy.”

We have the Spirit of God within us to lead and strengthen us.

We have the church family beside us to encourage and serve with us.

And we have the same mission: go and make disciples.

So when we meet an obstacle, opposition, or open door that feels bigger than we are, the question is not, “Do I feel strong?” The question is, “Is my faith planted in Christ?”

Even if your faith is small, if it is rooted and reaching—praying and depending—God will put His power on display.

He will do what only He can do.
