Serving Jesus: A Non-Negotiable (Part 2)
Last week we talked about how serving is not an optional extra in the Christian life. We were created for good works!
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
We don’t want to miss out on what we were created for.
When Christ saves us, He does not simply forgive us— He shapes us. He forms a new heart, new desires, and a new purpose.
Good works are not how we earn His love; they are what begin to flow out of a life that loves Him.
“...according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:16
Every part of the Body of Christ matters.
Jesus has given each of us a place in His body. When we serve, the church (body of Christ) is strengthened, others are encouraged, and we grow too.
Serving often looks simple. It’s showing up, helping in an unseen area, encouraging someone, meeting a need. But these ordinary acts become worship when they flow from love for Christ. Love for Jesus will automatically dispel selfishness and give us compassion for others.
Not sure how to start serving? Here are a few ideas to pray about:
1. Start with availability.
A simple prayer can be: “Lord, where would You have me serve?” Listen and watch for His answer.
2. Look for the need in front of you.
Often the opportunity God gives is closer than you think.
3. Be faithful in small things.
God often does His shaping work in the ordinary moments.
4. Serve from overflow.
Stay close to Jesus. Let your service flow from His love, not from obligation.
Sometimes the next step is simply this: “Yes, Lord—I’m available.”
