Humility πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈπŸ™πŸ™‡

β€œfulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:2-5

Everyone likes to work with people who treat them well, deal with people who are kind as we go about our daily lives, and be treated by our families in a thoughtful way. Why is it so hard to BE that person ourselves? I guess the answer is simple to know, but harder to do.

Humility.

The Merriam Webster dictionary describes humility like this: freedom from pride or arrogance; the quality or state of being humble.

So, how can we display this humility in a true wayβ€” not being fake about itβ€” but genuinely being free from pride or arrogance?

The Bible lays out the perfect recipe in the verses above. β€œLet this mind be in you.” What mind? The mind of Christ.

In Psalm 22, a prophetic psalm of Messiah, we read Messiah saying:

But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. Psalms 22:6

Humility leads us to respond in a Christ-like way even in difficult situations.

In his book, The Calvary Road, Roy Hession said this about humility and brokenness:

"Those who have been in tropical lands tell us that there is a big difference between a snake and a worm, when you attempt to strike at them. The snake rears itself up and hisses and tries to strike back--a true picture of self. But a worm offers no resistance, it allows you to do what you like with it, kick it or squash it under your heel--a picture of true brokenness."

How can we be more like Christ and less like a snake? Seek Him; read about Him; and ask Him to do whatever He wants to for His glory to be seen through you. If you need to change, He will change you if you want. Just ask.
